How Observable Space handles information connected to this website and its work.
Last updated: September 4, 2026
Observable Space values the trust of the people who visit this site, share a story, or support the work. This policy explains what information the site may receive, why it is used, and the choices available to you.
Who this policy covers
This policy applies to observablespace.org and its public website pages. Observable Space is responsible for the information described here. Questions about this policy can be sent to hello@observablespace.com.
Information you choose to provide
If you email Observable Space, the message and the contact details you include may be received and retained in the email system used to communicate with you. Please do not send payment card numbers, government identification, or other highly sensitive information by email.
The on-page Contact form is not currently connected to a message-delivery service. It validates entries in the browser and displays an “Inquiry Prepared” notice, but it does not transmit or store form entries. Until a delivery service is connected, email is the appropriate way to contact Observable Space.
Information collected when you visit
Like most websites, the hosting and delivery providers used to operate this site may process technical information needed to serve pages and protect the service. This can include an IP address, browser and device information, pages requested, the date and time of a request, referral information, and basic security or error-log data.
The site also loads the Inter typeface through Google Fonts. When your browser retrieves those files, Google may receive technical information such as your IP address under Google’s Privacy Policy.
This information is used to operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the website. It is not used by Observable Space to sell personal information or to build a profile of you for advertising.
Analytics
The website may use a privacy-focused analytics service when it is enabled in the production configuration. Its purpose is to understand aggregate site use, such as page visits and broad traffic patterns. Observable Space does not configure the site to send inquiry text, payment card details, Stripe identifiers, or exact donation amounts to analytics.
You can limit browser-based analytics by using your browser’s privacy settings or a content-blocking tool. Because analytics configuration can change, this policy will be updated if the site begins using materially different measurement practices.
Donations and Stripe
When you choose to donate, the site opens a hosted Stripe Checkout page. Payment information is entered directly with Stripe and is processed under Stripe’s Privacy Policy. Observable Space does not receive or store full payment card numbers or card security codes.
Stripe and related payment processors may collect information required to complete, prevent fraud in, or comply with law for a donation. Their handling of that information is governed by their own terms and privacy notices.
Video and external links
Project pages may offer Vimeo-hosted video. Vimeo is not initialized until you choose to play a video; after activation, Vimeo may process information and use cookies or similar technologies according to Vimeo’s Privacy Policy. The site also links to services such as Instagram, TikTok, and Vimeo. Those services operate independently and have their own privacy practices.
How information is shared and retained
Observable Space may rely on service providers that help host the site, deliver content, process donations, provide email, or maintain site security. Information is shared with those providers only as needed for those purposes or when required by law.
Direct correspondence is retained only for as long as reasonably needed to respond, maintain a relationship, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce agreements. Technical logs are retained according to the applicable provider’s operational practices.
Your choices and requests
You may ask about, correct, or request deletion of personal information held by Observable Space by emailing hello@observablespace.com. Some information may need to be retained where required for legal, security, accounting, or fraud-prevention reasons.
California residents may also use that address to make privacy requests. Observable Space does not currently sell or rent personal information. If its data practices materially change, this policy will be updated before the change takes effect where required.
Security and changes
Reasonable safeguards are used to protect information, but no internet transmission or storage system is completely secure. If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted here with a new “Last updated” date. Material changes to how personal information is used will be described clearly in the updated policy.
